Name Dropping | Down to the sea in ships: Wilson talks life on a nuclear sub

Jeff Wilson of Mahomet didn’t exactly feel like an up-and-coming member of society after graduating high school in the California bay area in the early ‘70s.

Coming from a broken home, the then-18-year-old was kicked out of the house by his stepdad, stayed with a friend, enrolled in junior college and worked part time washing dishes at a Mexican restaurant.

“I walked into work one day and my boss told me I was fired,” Wilson said. “I have no idea why. I had hair down to my shoulders, but I didn’t take drugs.”
